You eyes need to glide around the page effortlessly without having being transfixed in one particular area. Your page has to have that balanced look about it. The weights of the different elements on your page have to be equal, these will be effected by different sizes, colors, position as well as the detail in it.

The Design has to be Easy on the Eye.

Aside from the basic artistic flavour and individual flourishes, you also need to strongly consider the layout of your blog or web page. It should be easy for users to find what they need, to go to and from pages, and to basically provide a user-friendly experience. What you want to do is to give them the freedom to explore while keeping interaction intuitive and straightforward. It should be easy to go from any given page to another.

For example, you should always have a “back to home” link on all your pages, such that users can go back to your home page without having to click their browser’s “Back” button. Make it easy to jump from one category of pages via features like sidebars. With a sidebar, your customer can jump from “Company History” right to “Order From Category X” without routing through the home page and an unsorted catalogue or products or services.

Speaking of catalogues, you need to make it easy for the customer to browse through your repertoire or inventory. At the same time, you need to give them access to means of finding specific items of interest with only a few quick keystrokes or mouse clicks. That means you need to integrate a search system into your blog or website.

If your blog or website only deals with a few specific items, say up to 10, then a search system is not very useful. On the other hand, if you have several categories of products with variations and options, then a search system comes in very handy for the user who has a good idea of what he or she wants. Remember – display pre-built catalogues for a few items, use search systems for enabling specific searches from a wide selection.
