Here’s the Key to Building a Backyard Storage Shed – Ignore it at Your Peril

Life is easier after you’ve built a great backyard storage shed that gives you easy access to your tools, equipment and supplies while also keeping your property neat and orderly. But before you hammer a single nail, you need an excellent set of shed storage building plans to guide you each step of the way.

When my wife and I bought or house a few years ago, she inspected every room and measured how much inside storage space we had available. Too bad I didn’t do the same with the garage and parts of the basement. I quickly filled them up with up with tools, equipment and just plain “stuff.”

When maneuvering around the lawnmower, snow blower, bags of fertilizer, bicycles and lots of other things became a real nuisance, I decided it was time to build a backyard storage shed.

I briefly considered designing my own storage shed and creating my own storage shed building plans. That’s what I’ve done with smaller do it yourself woodworking and carpentry projects. However, even when I’ve figured out every detail I could think of, something would still go wrong at some point in the project.

I didn’t need that aggravation when building the backyard storage shed.

The backyard storage shed was going to be a really serious project. I wanted to get it right the first time and I wanted to be proud of my work.

So I went onto the Internet and located an excellent set of storage shed building plans for a shed design that suited my needs. I’m certainly glad I did.

In addition to saving me a ton of time, money and stress, having the plans and the step-by-step building instructions, manuals, drawings and building materials list that came with them was like having a master carpenter guide me through the project.

The most important feature I wanted this shed to provide was easy access to everything inside. I didn’t want to pull things out or move things around to reach stuff in the back. That’s why I got storage shed plans I could easily rework to give me a shed with two sets of doors — two doors in front and two in back.

Two sets of doors increased my overall expense and build time, but they were well worth the investment. For me, there’s nothing more exasperating than needing a piece of equipment and not being able to get to it without moving things around. With a set of doors on each end, I don’t have that worry.

But double-access design limited where I could put the structure. Most folks place the back of their shed right on the property line. But because I needed access at both ends, I turned the structure sideways.

Before I started building, I took lots of time to make sure the ground was level where I decided to place the shed. Then I poured a solid concrete foundation.

Two of the best investments I have ever made were in my backyard storage shed and in the set of storage shed plans I used to build it.

Now I have plenty of room in my garage. When I need my lawnmower, lime spreader or anything else I store inside, I can get my hands on it easily because of the shed’s easy access.
