Interior Design of a Great Room
The vast majority of architects nowadays are following the trend of designing great rooms. The term great room is used to indicate the combination in which the living room, the dining room and the kitchen are joined together in one large vast room. However, for the owners of the newly designed home, the greatest challenge is the interior design of the great room, or to be more precise, the combined design of the three separate entities. Each of the three rooms should have an individual color and ambient, though when they are combined together they should blend in perfectly into one cohesive room. In order to achieve that, the owners can hire an interior designer, or they can let their imagination roll and come up with a solution which will be personal and reflect their style, needs and requirements.
Interior design: the color splash of the great room
When a person has been presented with the possibility of designing a great room, he or she may feel overwhelmed by the possible choice, especially if that person is inexperienced. Nevertheless, the key to creating a successful and visually appealing interior design of great room is to start designing each room separately. One must always start with the colors of each room, having in mind that the colors should complement each other and unify the ambient. The colors always look different on printed brochures and when they are actually painted on the wall, so it is the best if the designer tries on different color shades stripes on one wall. The built-in pop-up features of the home (like the fire-place) should always be painted with an eye-catching color which will serve as main color theme.
Interior design: the trap of overwhelming pattern
The interior design of the great room is one of the most important aspects of really feeling like home. If you design it to look like one of the pictures posted on various magazines, you may find it to be utterly attractive, but not functional. If you try to follow the latest trends and use a strong pattern for the dining room chairs, you soon may feel like the chairs are taking over the center stage of the room, distracting the attention of the vastness of the room and pointing out to a single element. This obstacle can be easily overcome by making a detailed plan of the furniture the owners intend to buy, taking photos and combining them into large picture. This way, they can have complete insight of the finishing look and may decide if the particular piece of furniture fits the place or smothers it.
Interior design: the furniture
The large room looks attractive and appealing if it is unburden with furniture, as the furniture has the tendency of visually diminishing the overall room. The usual traffic patterns should be taken into consideration when the owners are planning the interior design of the room, as they may find themselves later being faced with the constant move of certain piece of furniture which has decorative purpose, but which clearly stands into the path towards the kitchen or the dining room table.
