The district reported it can be “pursuing all legal usually means” to continue to keep instructors and students in college. “We are hoping that OEA will alter course, but we are also placing designs in area in circumstance the strike takes place,” the district claimed in a statement

Under the district’s approach, Brookfield Elementary, Carl B. Munck Elementary, Grass Valley Elementary, Horace Mann Elementary and Korematsu Discovery Academy will shut entirely in the 2022-2023 college yr, Hillcrest K-8 will no lengthier have middle university grades. Rise Neighborhood Elementary and New Highland Academy are established to merge this 12 months into one faculty.

The school board voted in favor of the closures in February due to increasing stress from the point out and from Alameda County Business office of Schooling, “which has threatened to withhold resources and even seize regulate of the price range if Oakland fails to decrease yearly faculty paying by $50 million,” SFGATE documented previously.
