The home on 14 Old Boston Post Drive in Roxbury resembles a raised ranch from the outside, but the Litchfield County home is actually contemporary Acorn deck house.
Listed for $1.195 million, the home was constructed as a post and beam-style contemporary home by prefabrication company, Acorn Deck House Company. Designed to “bring the outdoors in,” according to the listing, the home’s exterior features include a deck with western views of foothills, as well as a heated pool and a screened-in porch. Also on the home’s over 7 acres of land are horse paddocks and pastures, the listing notes, along with a three-stall horse barn.
But the Old Boston Post Drive home isn’t the only structure associated with the property. The listing notes that the 1,512 square-foot building on 134 Southbury Road is also part of the property. The building and its adjoining 3 acres of land was “formerly used as a veterinary practice,” according to the listing, and poses potential as a guest house, studio space or home business area.

The duo started their own company after working with Carl Koch, an architect known for early success with prefabricated building designs that used pre-made panels for walls, flooring and roofs. Koch’s and Berkes and Brownell’s companies eventually merged in 1995 under the name of “Deck House, Inc.” The company has since built over 20,000 homes worldwide.
Inside the Old Boston Post Drive deck house, there are three bedrooms and three full bathrooms spread across its 2,826 square feet of living space. The home also features mahogany doors throughout, and its lower level contains a family room and gym space.
