The Golden Girls House Is for Sale, and I’ve Never Wanted to Buy Real Estate More

The Golden Girls has been in my life for as long as I can remember. I was 10 years old back in 1985, when the show debuted to massive success on NBC, and remember watching with my parents—though, of course, many of the wickedly funny jokes went over my tiny head back then.

In the years since, my beloved Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia have basically never left my TV screen. First, there were the always airing reruns I watched through college and beyond (and still on Sunday mornings because I’m a Gen X’er who has cable). Today, of course, you can stream them to your heart’s content on Hulu. It’s seriously not hyperbole to guess I’ve seen every episode drywall texture sprayer upwards of 50 times.

I basically consider them family, and it’s absolutely incredible how well the writing and performances hold up decades later. The wit! The sass! The friendships! For years, my friends and I have (half) joked about the day we’ll all retire—as if, in this economy!—and move in together Golden Girls style to spend our older years living lives as vibrant and fun and sexy as those we had in our 20s.

Now the actual house used for the exterior shots of the first season of the show is for sale, and I’ve never wanted to invest in real estate more than I do right now. Architectural Digest reports the ranch-style home is on the market for a mere $2.999 million. While Golden Girls famously took place in Miami—Miami, Miami, you’ve got style—this house is situated in lovely Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. (Apparently, they built a set replicate of the house for later exteriors.)

The midcentury home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, which sounds perfect for me and my crew. Plus the interiors (which you can check out here) are very much my design sensibility.

Naturally, the set-built interiors of the Girls house are much more famous than the outside. But I’m quite sure this patio texture sprayer machine is a perfect substitute for the lanai, and I’m already stocking up on cheesecake (and rosé, let’s be honest) for late-night gossip sessions in that kitchen.

Now, does anyone have $3 million my friends and I can borrow to live out our middle-aged fever dream of becoming a modern-day Golden Girls? We are very funny and could possibly be Texture Spray Machine convinced to document our experiences.

Fingers crossed. In the meantime, you can find me at The Rusty Anchor.
